Ode to Bermuda Grass
Let us praise the miracle of Bermuda grass. I know we’re not supposed to. Monsanto’s been trying to kill it for sure for ages. But still it grows. Here it is in my organic garden where I wanted only cucumbers, peppers, herbs, and tomatoes, colonizing composted potential with its pesky Hermetic runners bearing . . . good news? Or bad? It all depends on how you look at it and where you stand. In the backyard hipster garden of my plans, not so good. Nor in the green lawns of suburban Roundup. But maybe from a divine point of view it’s God’s kudzu Kingdom running rampant through the world, greening the muck of time despite our desire for only the perfection of Kentucky bluegrass and chives.
